3. Self-Reflection
Homepage

Welcome again to this eLearning unit! On this page you will find information about possibilities of this platform as well as the process of this unit.
Background: Why is an internship so important?
The theoretical expertise of a study program alone is not sufficient to gain a foothold in the job market. A working day is usually a lot different than a study program and requires different requirements. You do not just have to understand what you learn, but you also have to be able to apply it in practice. A representative survey of more than 300 companies also shows that 70 % of the respondents see the practical experience gained as an increasing importance for a successful career entry. It is therefore the most frequently mentioned factor for personal selection (vgl. Hochschul-Bildungsreport 2020, Jahresbericht 2016, S. 28). Internships offer an ideal opportunity for you to become a graduate with practical experience.
Experience reports
Our videos with illustrative examples and concrete tips, subtitled in German and English, show how theory and practice can be successfully be combined. We have collected some exciting experience reports from students who have already completed their internship.

These focus areas are the main thread of the eLearning unit and you will receive information in different places. This way you will learn what a transfer internshis and what the advantages are. You can also download a reflection diary that can accompany you before, during and after your internship.
The eLearning unit is divided into three phases:
- Before the internship: Internship-Search and Application
- During the internship: Internship Workday
- After the internship: Self-Reflection
You can decide for yourself whether you want to work through the eLearning unit from start to finish, whether you want to enter a certain stage of whether you want to read only a few pieces of information. The sub-chapters of each phase build on each other, but are “into self-contained”.
A lot of the information applies not only to your internship, but can also be applied to your career entry later on. The application process is an example: In this section you have the opportunity to create your written application documents. These can then serve as a basis for further applications. If you save the documents in one folder, you will save a lot of time and effort in future application procedures.
A digital support offer is not enough for you? No problem, because there are special counselling services for students at almost every university. You will usually find them on the homepage under the term ‘Career Service’. You will receive expert support around the application process as well as valuable tips on finding a job and getting started in internships and jobs.
Here you will find the symbols used in this module and their meaning, which will guide you throughout the entire eLearning unit.
